Rupal Patel, Vice President Trend Direction

Rupal BioAs a child, Rupal Patel was intrigued by her mother’s paintings that hung throughout her childhood home. Drawing on this inspiration, Rupal began teaching herself how to paint by studying “how to” art books. Rupal first gained public recognition for her artwork in college, at the University of Bombay in India where she studied textile chemistry and engineering. There she graduated at the top of her class and was ranked one of the top five students in the country, earning her numerous scholarships to the United States, including a summer of study at the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago.

After her studies in the United States, Rupal primarily focused her artistic talents on designing fabric patterns for top brands including Chanel, YSL and Hermes. She continued, in her free time, to paint commission portraits for private clients and cultural associations. When she co-founded the company, Hot Mango Pickle, on 2005, she began painting full-time.

Rupal’s exhibitions were an immediate success and her work is now a part of private collections throughout the world. Rupal is most admired for her watercolor, her favorite medium, which allows her the technical freedom to vividly capture her subject.

Although Rupal is inspired by different schools of art and international artists, her ultimate artistic stimulation comes from the landscapes and people of India and the many vacations spent in her parents’ birthplace of Gujarat. All of Rupal’s paintings reflect her true passion, the beautiful textiles of India.
